Film Festival Calendar 2024: Upcoming Major Film Festivals

Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film festival celebrates international films bringing in over 200,000 people including filmmakers, cinema enthusiasts, film studio executives and many film industry professionals as well. This film festival celebrates new films of all genres, even documentary films from all over the world.

Dates: May 14th - 25th 2024

HIT

Award-Winning Films: The biggest hit, of course, is the recognition a film gets at the film festival. Winning the Palme d'Or, the highest honour at Cannes, is a huge deal and can launch a film and its director to international fame. Examples include Parasite (2019) and The Wind Rises (2013).

Career Launches: Cannes is a star-making machine. Many actors and directors have seen their careers explode after a successful Cannes debut. Think of Marion Cotillard who won Best Actress for La Vie en Rose (2007) or Gael García Bernal who emerged after Y Tu Mamá También (2001).

Glamour & Fashion: The red carpet at Cannes is a legendary showcase of fashion. Actresses and celebrities come dressed to impress by the most sought-after designers. It's a night for iconic fashion moments.

MISS

Cannes generates a lot of hype around certain films, and sometimes they don't live up to the expectations. Booing and negative reviews are not uncommon, though some booed films go on to become cult classic films.

The edgy nature of some films and the presence of film industry professionals can stir controversy. From outlandish outfits to political statements, Cannes always has something to get people talking, not always for positive reasons.

Not every red-carpet outfit hits the mark. While some looks turn heads for the right reasons, others become misses due to being too avant-garde or simply ill-fitting.
