The film industry has come a long way in portraying the diversity of the real world on screen.

Previously, films were dominated by white actors and stories. People of colour, women, and LGBTQ+ characters were often sidelined or stereotyped.

But now we see that there is a growing recognition of the importance of diversity and representation. This is due to social justice movements, audience demand for authentic stories, and the financial success of diverse films. We see more actors and actresses of colour in lead roles and complex characters. There is a rise in films with LGBTQ+ characters and storylines that go beyond stereotypes.

The audio-visual industry is hopefully moving towards a future where diversity is the norm, not the exception. This will lead to richer stories, a wider range of independent voices, and a more accurate reflection of the world we live in.
