The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has scored a significant success at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with their student film, "Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know." This film was chosen for the prestigious La Cinef competitive section at Cannes. This section specifically focuses on showcasing aspiring filmmakers and films from film schools worldwide. Out of a staggering 2,263 films submitted by film schools globally, "Sunflowers" was one of only 18 short films selected for La Cinef. "Sunflowers" was the only Indian film chosen for La Cinef, making it a national representative for upcoming filmmakers.

This achievement has put FTII's schooling and focus on practical filmmaking in the spotlight. It highlights the institute's ability to nurture aspiring filmmakers.

The selection at Cannes serves as a huge inspiration for current and future FTII students, showcasing the international recognition their cinemas can achieve.

This recognition leads to film distribution deals, film festival invites, and career opportunities for the student filmmakers involved.

The Cannes selection has lead to a rise in applications to FTII, attracting aspiring filmmakers who want to be part of a program that fosters such acclaimed filmmaking.
