The international film festival Butoni Film Fest in Manises was founded in 2021 as a sample of international short films, where a special importance to young and student cinema, to encourage and support future filmmakers.

During the four days of the festival, not only short films are screened, besides there are parallel activities for all audiences.

The festival is directed by Javier Guillot and organized by Butoni Films, with the support of the Manises City Council and a selected group of private sponsors.

Rules & Terms:

1.SCOPE
The festival’s scope is international.

2. REQUIREMENTS
The festival includes short films of any genre: fiction, animation, originals, adaptations… It should not exceed 25 minutes.
Promotional/Advertising/Touristic short films won’t be accepted.
The festival’s organisation will judge every submitted candidate equally.
Short films completed after January 1, 2019 are eligible for consideration in the Official Selection and the Student Selection.
To qualify for student entry fee rates, entrants must include proof of student status at the time of production.
Short films are allowed in every language. Entrants must submit the original version with english, spanish or valencian subtitles, in case the original language of the short films is different from spanish or valencian.

3. SUBMISSIONS
Submissions’ Deadline: June 20, 2021.
Short films’ submission must be via online screener hosted by one of these options:

Each entrant could submit more than one short film, however, there will be only one work selected of the same authorship.

OFFICIAL SELECTION: Fiction & Animation Short Films
Regular entry fee is 10€ per short film until April 30 (included)
Extended entry fee is 20€ per short film, From May 1 to June 20.

STUDENT SELECTION: Fiction & Animation Short Films
Regular entry fee is 5€ per short film until April 30 (included)
Extended entry fee is 10€ per short film, From May 1 to June 20.

The School/High school Students Selection does not require a fee payment.

Every document or information received will be stored at the festival’s database.



4. SELECTION
The festival includes the following categories:

Official Selection (Competition)

School/High School Students Selection (Out of Competition)
Concurrent Selection (Out of Competition)

Categories could be modified if the festival’s organisation deems it appropriate.

5. SELECTION FEE
The festival’s organisation will reward every short film selected in the OFFICIAL SELECTION (COMPETITION) the amount of 30€ to the short film’s producer.

6. JURY
Official Selection short films will be selected by Butoni Fest’s committee, as well as the rest of the categories.
Butoni Fest Jury consists of six audiovisual professionals selected by the festival’s organisation, and six students with degrees related to the audiovisual industry, also selected by the festival’s organisation. This Jury will grant the awards to the candidates.
The Jury’s final decision is not subject to appeal.

7. AWARDS
The awards granted by the Jury, the attending audience and the festival’s organisation are:

Awards and trophies will be granted at the closing gala to the winning short film’s director, producer or any significant person of the film’s staff. Shipping costs of the non-attendees’ awarded will not be covered by the festival’s organisation. Awards will be subject to the legal withholdings established by current law. Festival Jury reserves the right to grant as many special awards as deemed appropriate, even be declared void if deemed necessary.

8. RULES AND FESTIVAL ATTENDANCE
Entrants of the Student Selection must include proof of student status at the time of production (from universities, film schools or Educational Cycles). School/High school students projects can submit their own out of competition category.
Short films submitted can be screened by the festival, wherever and whenever it deems appropriate during the days of the festival and in parallel screenings that may take place during the rest of the year, up to a maximum of five.
Selected short films’ authors will take part in a colloquium following the screenings of their works.
Submissions fees are not refundable. The festival is not responsible for lost or damaged materials.
The following considerations will be taken into account with respect to attendance at the festival for the competitive selection:
If the short film or the director is from the Valencian Community, it will be an essential condition to present the short film to the public and to participate in the subsequent discussion on the day of the screening of the work. The organization will make every effort to make it possible for the director or representative of the short film to attend. If the director does not attend and does not send a representative, he/she will lose the right to payment for selection and will not be considered for the Audience Award.
If the short film or the director is of Spanish nationality, it will be an indispensable condition, in case of being awarded, the attendance of the director or a member of the team representing the short film at least to the closing gala. The organization will make every possible effort to make it possible for the director or a representative to attend. Otherwise, the award will be considered rejected and will be awarded to the alternate considered by the Jury.
If the short film or the Director is of foreign nationality, it will be an indispensable condition, in case of being awarded, to send at least a thank you video for the closing gala. Otherwise, the award will be rejected and it will be awarded to the alternate considered by the Jury.

9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
The author or owner will maintain their intellectual rights and it will be their responsibility to ensure that they are not subject to any legal liability and that there are no third party rights. The submission of a short film to Butoni Fest implies, on the part of the selected participants, the non-proprietary transfer of the material to the organizing entities for its use in the different activities programmed with the sponsors of the festival. In the same way, the organization will be able to use extracts of the short film (never longer than 3 min.) for advertising or promotional purposes of the festival.

10. ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Submission implies acceptance of these rules.
Any question not foreseen in these rules will be resolved by the festival’s organisation.
These rules are subject to possible modifications and/or additions for reasons beyond the organisation's control.
