A woman is pushed over the edge of her terrace overlooking a rocky cliff with ocean beneath. It is not certain who she is or whether she survives. Three years earlier, Liliane (50s) and her husband Elliot (70s) have just moved to Baja from the US after retiring. They hire a handsome young Latino man, Juan (30s) to complete some renovations. Elliot and Liliane treat Juan like the son they never had. Juan recommends an acquaintance, Rosa to come to work for the couple as a cook and housekeeper. It is not long before Elliot suffers a heart attack and is rushed to the hospital. With her husband’s health in decline, Liliane and Juan strike up a passionate romance. After Elliot takes a tragic fall, Juan decides to suffocate him with a pillow so that he can have Liliane all to himself. Liliane experiences guilt and confides everything to her psychiatrist, including her affair with Juan. It is revealed in Liliane’s psychiatric sessions that she suffered abuse at the hand of her father and has a fear of being alone and has attempted suicide in the past. Juan's volatile nature triggers her painful memories, causing her panic attacks. Liliane is unable to escape the relationship because she is paralyzed by her fear of being abandoned. Liliane discovers that Juan has been in a relationship with her housekeeper Rosa all along. She gets consumed by jealousy and finally kicks Juan out. In retaliation, Juan embarks upon a plot to kill her for the money. The various timelines intersect with the opening scene when Liliane is pushed off the edge of the terrace. It is revealed that Liliane survived the fall. She goes through a full transformation assisted by surgical and therapeutic intervention and returns to the same community posing as a real estate agent with hair extensions and facial reconstruction. She has a plan to exact revenge and regain her self-worth.
