Director's Biography
Dexter Jone, an undergraduate who majors in Radio and television Editing at Nanjing University of the Arts, loves movies. Distant Love is the first short Plot film written and directed by himself. Influenced by European films, especially the film aesthetics represented by the French new wave, he highly praised Andre Bazin's long-lens theory and documentary style.
Director's Statement
Just when it's a bright spring day in the village of Nanjing. Hong, whom Min has not seen for many years, suddenly enters her life and leads her to review the misfortunes and sorrows which happened to her in the past, the interplay of multiple emotions leads these two women to try to come to terms with their past. Faced with the dilemma of women's existence, can they find a way out? would they smash the fetters and handcuffs of life by tracing the connection between memories and the spiritual shackles at hand? Are there more hidden secrets behind the betrayal and deception? With these confusions, we attempt to seek possibilities through this short film. We hope to give a voice to females, to the marginalized groups around us who are oppressed and beaten by society, which will provide a realistic and dreamy experience and poetry for those trapped in the spiritual swamp and cannot extricate themselves.
