Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Festival Rating
In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same. Inglourious Basterds isn't heavy adrenalin action. It's a war movie without much war but plenty of menace. It's a sort of exploration of mentalities that wars create in us: reasons to kill, an urge to hurt. The movie needs to be enjoyed slowly like good wine. There's pleasure in its details. But you'll have to do the hard work of finding them yourself, as in any decent work of art.
