Director's Biography

A strong universe: Only 18 years old, Yan Berthemy began to make a name for himself in the world of independent cinema. His first short film La Belle et le torchon did not go unnoticed, with numerous prizes won at several festivals.

It was in 2016 that Yan began his career in the music industry as an art director for two record labels located abroad in Asia. In 2018 and 2019, he joined a photography school in Paris and made several studio and outdoor photography projects on experimental and topical subjects. He exhibits his photos among many others, at the Jeu de Paume (Louvre) and at the Faculty of Letters of the Sorbonne. He won various prizes in photography festivals and obtained a national Diploma of Excellence in Photography.

Following the quarantine of 2020, he began to write his very first film, La Belle et le Torchon, of which he was the screenwriter director. He won 8 prizes in festivals as well as various selections and screenings in France and abroad.

Passionate about genre cinema and especially horror, his references are drawn from the Italian cinema of the 70s through the masters of giallo and "cinema bis": Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Sergio Martino, Silvio Amadio, Ennio Morricone ...

He will present in October 2022, his second short film "Morto Rossa" signed kitsch and wacky fantasy horror, tackling the theme of makeover and casting pressures.

Director's Statement

I wrote Morto Rossa after being humiliated during an oral exam at school for an end-of-year project. Seeing frustrated and vampirizing teachers then made me want to transcend this experience in the script. I started writing about old teachers using young people soul to get younger, this is how Morto Rossa was born.
