Director's Statement
I directed this film, "The locked door", in order to spread a message that people with mental illness aren't alone. I know what they are going through. This story is personal to me. No, I'm not an agoraphobic man like the protagonist, but I have a friend who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder In April 2020. He has a lot in common with the protagonist like a relationship with a girl who inspired him to make changes in life, insecurity and other things.
Before I started to write a synopsis of a new story, my intention was to make a film on mental health with limited actors and crew members. So, I had conversations with people who suffer from agoraphobia which inspired me to write the script. Some of them even agreed to share their personal story via audio call. it wasn't an easy thing to make a film, because I had to overcome my own fears and become a leader for the team. My mom and leading actors believed in me and the script. So, I couldn't let them down.
Andrew, Igor's brother, represents those groups of citizens who consider mental illness as a weakness. They don't believe that in some cases you can't go out on your own. It's all in your head, stop taking pills. It's the way they think about you. I didn't intend to make Andrew a monster, pure evil. No, he has reasons to do what's right for him.
