Director's Statement
Based on a love story the film introspects a lonely woman, her love, hatred and acceptance that breed between two women of a Chapania. The film is adapted from an Assamese short story POKHILAR PAKHIWings of butterfly) written by Kumud goswami.
My point of study in this film, Wings of Butterfly, is the boldness of a lonely rape victim and how she asserts herself in many odd situations and comes out as a winner.
Previously in my first film, SONAM, I tried to study the pair-bond that exists between a married couple. Now after 14 years this is, (Wings of Butterfly), the study of a couple where the par-bond does not exist.
The film is based on an Assamese short story authored by Late Kumud Goswami. But I did not follow the story as it was, there were many omissions and commissions.
What always impresses me about a women is that it is her motherhood –natural leaning towards a baby. Audience will be able to notice the strong natural leaning of the central character, Pokhila, towards the baby which is not her own. It is actually a very complex situation wherein the man who used to live with her without the bond of marriage but left her for a beautiful widow. The widow died in child birth.
It is interesting to note that why Pokhila get attracted towards a motherless child that is too towards the son of her previous mate. Is it sheer motherhood alone or a some kind of attraction towards her bed mate?
This film WINGS OF BUTTERFLY is a study of women how she can lives up in many unfavorable conditions.
