Description

An inter positive (often abbreviated as IP) is a positive film copy made from the edited original Negative. In the film production Process, after shooting and editing, the original negative is used to create a positive copy called the inter positive. This inter positive serves as an intermediate step before creating the final release prints.

The inter positive is created to protect the original negative from wear and tear during the printing process, as making multiple prints directly from the original negative could damage it over time. The inter positive is a high-quality copy that retains much of the detail and color Information of the original negative.

To summarize, in the film industry, an inter positive is an intermediary positive copy of the edited film, created for the purpose of film producing release prints while preserving the integrity of the original negative.
