Director's Biography
Filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer and cultural producer from Pernambuco (Brazil), graduated in Publicity, Propaganda and Digital Media. He expanded his universe as a communicator, specializing in photography and cinema. He went through some advertising agencies before creating zero8onze PhotoCine, in 2016. An independent producer, between 2015 and 2022 he made several productions in cinema, theater, private corporations and on the internet.
He co-produced and co-directed the short films: “O Som do Surto” (The Sound of the Outbreak); “VOLTA, eu te amo!” (Come back, I love you!) - fiction and Documentary - and “Avesso” (Reverse) where he signs the direction and the script, in addition to giving life to one of the protagonists of the short film.
His first feature film “Alugo Quartos” (I rent rooms) is in post-production, in addition to the documentary “Pétalas” (Petals) and his photo-documentary project “Batom Vermelho” (Red Lipstick).
In music, among other productions, he produced and directed the webseries “Mulheres do Samba” (Samba Women), the clip “Fogaréu” (Big Fire), by Renata Jambeiro, and co-produced the clip “Janaina”, by Sá Gabriel.
He carried out 07 projects of photographic exhibitions in several cities in Brazil and worked with photography and audiovisual within the theater.
In early 2021, he produced in partnership with Cia. Experimental de Teatro, the show “Depois do Fim do Mundo”, which was performed at the Festival Janeiro de Grandes Espetáculos (January Festival of Great Shows), in Recife-PE (2021), and in partnership with Cia. Eficientes Especiais, the show “Mania de Você, a tribute to Rita Lee”, a theatrical play with only blind artists, filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, at Teatro João Caetano, Rio de Janeiro-RJ, and broadcast online. line on the FUNARJ EM CASA platform.
Now, he presents his newest work: the short film: “Alice, my father!”. Independent film that Fernando signs the production, script and direction.
Director's Statement
“Alice, my father!” is a short film whose main narrative is the story of a relationship of love, affection, trust and respect between father and son, both raised within a Christian family. The father, a man who rides a drag queen, who sings at night and suffered punishment for it. The son, a young teenager, who has a girlfriend of the same age group and who is pregnant. The plot takes place at the moment when the son looks for his father when he discovers that his girlfriend wants to terminate the pregnancy. This creates a conflict with their religious upbringing. The father, faced with his son's despair, ends up revealing family secrets, in an attempt to reassure him, showing that life is more complex than religious teachings. In its various sublayers, the short also brings female empowerment, the woman's right over her body, over her sexual and affective relationships.
The film is independent, without sponsorship and without resources from culture incentive laws. Literally made with love for everyone involved and with the producers' own resources invested in the production. A reduced technical team, which took on several functions in the project, and a talented cast, invited to participate, turned the dream of making cinema in Brazil into reality. All committed to doing their best and so it was.
The short film is part of a project called “Alugo Rooms”, a pilot project for an LGBTQIA+ series, conceived in 2015. The series tells the story of several members of the community, one of which is Alice, character played by actor Carlos Arruza. From the pilot, two films emerged: the feature film, still in post-production, “Alugo Rooms” and the short film “Alice, my father!”.
The script was written in 2015, but it wasn't until 2018 that we found the cast and crew willing to bring the project to life. We filmed between 2018 and 2019, and now, in 2023, the first fruit of the work is born with the short film “Alice, meu pai!”
The film is a small clipping of the look of Fernando Cunha Jr - director and screenwriter of the work - on the world, on issues that, for him, are of great relevance and that need to be talked about, debated and evidenced.
“As a communicator and as an artist, I cannot make art without transforming it into a means of improving the world. I write about real life and the issues that surround us. So, I created a film that “puts the finger on the wound”, which exposes our hypocrisy, but which, above all, brings reflection on important issues for us to understand that we are different, plural and that is why we need respect and equal rights. .” – Fernando Cunha Jr.
Due to the instability of the WNFC platform, here is the technical sheet of the short film "Alice, my father!"
