CARLOS ALBERTO de MATOS TRINDADE, Curriculum Vitae (summarized)

Born in Porto (Portugal) in 1957. Degree in Fine Arts by FBAUP, University of Porto, 1981. PhD in Contemporary Art, Vigo University (Spain), 2014, with the thesis entitled “Arte e Memória: desenvolvimentos e derivações sobre o conceito de memória e sua contribuição à prática artística”. He his Auxiliar Professor at Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP, Art School of Porto), being one of its founders – founder member of the Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Artístico Árvore I (1981/1982) and member of the first school board, today called CESAP –, where has been teaching since 1982 in its various degree programmes and where he worked in different posts: he is currently Director of the Fine Arts and Intermedia Degree.

Scholarship of Fondation for Science and Technology, FCT (2009-2012). Member of the research group MODO (Fine Arts Faculty, Sculpture Department Vigo University). SR of the research project “Pintura, Fotografia e Cinema: referências picturais nas imagens fotográficas e cinematográficas” (2016-2019).

Has developed, in parallel with his teaching career, a wide activity as an artist. He had his first professional exhibition in 1978 and, since then, has been showing art regularly: he did six individual exhibitions and took part in more than 160 collective, in Portugal and abroad. His work is represented in some private and public collections (Portugal, Spain, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Finland, USA). It was a member of National Governing Board of “ANAP/ National Association of Visual Artists, National Commitee for AIAP/UNESCO” (1998/2002).

Between 1976 and 1981 has worked professionally in Animation Cinema, including two films subsidised by IPC (Portuguese Institute of Cinema), produced by Cinematógafo- colectivo de intervenção, of which it was a founding member; one of them, Uma História de Letras (A Letter’s Story, 1980), was the first film in the history of Portuguese Cinema admitted in the official international competition of the Festival Theatre D’Annecy (1981), the world’s most renowned festival of their kind. In 1980, participated in “Journées Internationales du Cinema d’Animation – 20 ème Anniversaire du Festival Theatre D’Annecy”, at the invitation of the French government. Recently, re-started to devote himself to cinema and video. The short-films Flashbulb memories (2015) and Clouds…Clouds (2018) have been presented in some international film festivals. Clouds…Clouds was awarded with "3rd place in Experimental of the Month category", 12 Months Film Festival (#12 MFF). January Edition 2019, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
