Director's Biography
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is my favorite movie. Fight me.” - Jordana Valerie Allen-Shim
Jordana Valerie is a Toronto-born, U.S.-raised filmmaker, dog mom, and aspiring graphic novelist passionate about empowering marginalized communities through art. Her parents, a Korean immigrant to Canada and a Jewish American, met in Toronto before moving to Connecticut with Jordana Valerie and her younger sister.
Along with film, Jordana Valerie has a deep background in activism and social justice. She also worked in electoral politics for four years, holding leadership positions at several major progressive organizations, before realizing that she could make a far greater change through art. Now, she is intent on telling bold, disruptive stories about queer women and non-binary people of color.
Jordana Valerie’s dream project is a superhero film about queer revolutionaries liberating themselves from their oppressors and creating meaningful, positive change in the world. Until then, you can find her lugging camera equipment around the city, cuddling with her puppy Mx. Claus Pupperton, and maxing out on comic books at the library.
