Director's Biography
After studying cinema and theater, Antoine Stehlé attended screenwriting workshops with le GREC, Trégor, Gindou, Passerelles Occitanie and Festival Tous Courts. HABIBTI, winner of the Talents en court program, is his first film, which has been produced in association with Super Seven.
Director's Statement
The story was inspired by the personal experience of a French-Tunisian friend, Sabrine Habassi, with whom I co-wrote the screenplay. Driven by my desire to work with a renowned actress, Farida Rahouadj (Gagarine, Nobody's Hero, Touiza...) and her daughter Leïla Blier, for whom this was her first shooting as an actress, and by the idea of an airy, wind-beaten huis clos where the unspoken reigns in a heavy but hushed atmosphere, Habibti plunges the viewer into Anissa's complex relationship with her mother in a cultural context between tradition and modernity.
