Director's Statement
Lady Of Light review by creator Adam Scarborough.
.......... ................
Death and mortality have always fascinated me for being the most unknown quantity; the greatest mystery.
I had a preconception of a lady living within the confines of a British cemetery. I think the notion goes back to my childhood when my Grandmother used to take me to a local cemetery to put flowers on her Dad's grave. The fascinating thing about cemeteries is they never age. It's like a time warp of a distant decade or century when you enter. As the surrounding world modifies, the cemetery ages, yet leaving the ambience in tact. Its a fashion that will never go around in circles .
We used to meet other visitors there including a Widow who used to sit next to her Husband's grave telling us " Sometimes I hear him calling me!" I was around 5 years old at the time, and the memory of this stayed with me.
I didn't want the 'Lady Of Light ' concept to necessarily be one of suspense and horror. Moreover, I had in mind an artistic vision of the cemetery as a place of intrigue or perhaps surreal beauty; a place where life and egos still prevailed above and below the soil.
There are few words in Lady Of Light, apart from a little sombre poetry I wrote for the piece.
I wanted the soundtrack of the movie to build into a dissonant regularity- using music from life unto death. I think I headed in the right direction.
The lady Of Light wanders around the zoo of the deceased. I hope it painted a picture of the sanctity of life. She's of another time; memories of those who shed tears of her loss, also long gone.
