The story of Minimum Mass is inspired by our personal lives. In 2014, we began trying to build a family, only to face a series of miscarriages. In the same time we followed the scientific news and the speculations about the « micro black holes ». While some people were scared by the idea of black holes, we found it fascinating. What if a micro black hole formed itself inside a woman’s body ? What would it look like ? These were the premises of Minimum Mass, emerging from both our fictional and personal realities.

Raqi Syed and Areito Echevarria are visual effects artists and researchers whose work combines visual storytelling and new technologies. They both worked for WETA DIGITAL and contributed to films such as AVATAR and THE HOBBIT trilogy. They are both practitioners in immersive reality and currently teach at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. Their work as technicians and researchers has been rewarded by multiple prizes, including the Academy Award for Best Technical Achievement for Areito Echevarria and his work on the Deep Compositing.
