Director's Biography

Yuuki is an artist of traditional Japanese Kamigata dance which of the minimum motion in the world, express through her own performance, photography and film.
She convey contemporary image by dancing of a Japanese fan and kimono to the world.
She started dance and tea ceremony from her childhood, studied architecture, garden design and landscape at Tokyo University of the Arts.

Director's Statement

My expression is based on the essence of Japanese traditional “Kamigata “ dance in a contemporary style. It expresses what is produced in the relation by various environment and other culture.
Japanese traditional “Kamigata” dance shows the fan, kimono and the pattern of cloth. And It also show the space in the surroundings of dancer and it is aesthetics unique to Japan.
It is the opposite of the Occidental dance which shows the body.
Moreover, Japanese traditional Kamigata dance is expressed by the minimum motion and is a dance with the smallest motion in the world.
It's interesting to note that traditional "tea ceremony" of Japan calls a motion of a hand “Te-mae” (accomplishment in tea-serving manners), and this is small dance of "hand" for making tea.
I am groping for expressing profound traditional Japanese culture, such as this "Kamigata dance", "kimono", and "tea ceremony" with a global view in a contemporary style rather than remaining as it is.
It aims at telling the beauty of tradition of Japan to the world by a new technique by present-day sensitivity, and going, being an inspiration produced in a trip or mixing collaboration with other culture.
