Suujoy J. Mukerji hails from a family of legends who have a left an indelible mark in the history of Indian cinema. He is the third generation of filmmaker from the lineage of Sashadhar Mukherjee to Joy Mukerji. Born into the family of legends, he believed in learning from the scratch and started his career as an assistant director in films like Sangdil Sanam, Rock Dancer. He then went on to play lead roles in films like Mehboob Mere Mehboob, Hum Hai Kamaal Ke, Pyar Pyar and then eventually moved on to producing and directing television serials and corporate AVs. Suujoy was also an associated producer in the film Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara which was directed by his brother Monjoy under the Joy Mukerji Productions banner.
Currently as a Director of Filmalaya studio, he oversees the operations and plans to revamp the facility into a state of art studio in future. He is also working on his dream project ‘Smera’ and will also work on ‘Ek Musafir Ek Hasina’ -his father Joy Mukerji’s superhit film, in a new avatar best suited to today’s era. Suujoy had always thought ahead of his time but waited patiently to put his dream project together. While ‘Ab Mujhe Udnaa Hai’ showcases the guts, grit and glory of a physically and emotionally traumatized teenager to soar high in the sky. The short film won 40 awards nationally and internationally, including the most prestigious DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD, making it one of the best works of the director. His forthcoming project is a web series - ‘Gutka King’ and three short films - ‘Kalpvrich’, 'Bhook', and 'Zameer' which is in progress state.
Director's Statement
Director Sujoy Mukerji Focuses On The Rise of Suicide Rates Especially Amongst the Youth today For Trivial Matters. Youth Being Prone to Anger , Frustration and Depression Forgetting to Focus On The Importance of Being Given a Human Life. The Director Claims " Looking At me People Simply Assumed I Had it All On a Platter. The Family Name, The Looks The Fortune. I was Enjoying The Good Life On the Outside But Deep Inside I was Going Through a Storm Of my Own. Silently Battling Depression I was On the Verge Of Ruining Myself Without Realizing It. Yet Thanks to God, and the Love And Support Of my Family I Found The Will to Survive".
Depression Is An Epidemic Hitting Most of Us Today. Not Only The Youth But People Of All Ages Coming From Many Walks Of Life. The Demon Named Depression Won't waste an Opportunity to Devour Anyone. Be it a Famous Celebrity or Even the Humble Farmers. Non-Discrimination Here is the Only One thing Common The Demon And Divine Have in Common. The Divine Too Gives to you A Reminder. That this Life is Yours to Live. You Will Recieve Strong Subtle Signs. Which Also Highlights The Importance Of Constructive Criticism In Such Cases.
Thus In this Battle Of Inner Demon Versus the Inner Divine, Both Reside In Us. We Have to Make a Choice. Help Will Always be Available. It's Up to Us to Ask for it. Depression Dosen’t Discriminate Between Religions Either. Where a Hindu Dharmic Sevak Came As a Messiah To Srishti The Angelic Muslim Fakir Comes In as Sadiq In the End Potraying the Universal Truth That God Is One. It's Simply One Divine Energy, Coming in Different Forms ,Different Avatars To Communicate To All his Followers In the Language They Understand the Best And Beliefs They Have Within them. The Harsh Realities of Life Have to be faced by all. Be it a Mere Human or Even an Avatar Of God.
The Big Question remains Who is Your Hero In this Film? Is it Goddess Durga? Is it Allah? Is it Sevak? Or Even Sadiq?
If One Were To Sit And Contemplate About this Director Sujoy Mukerji Reveals Here That YOU Alone Are the Hero Of Your Life Story. Problems Happen To All. It Just Happens On a Different Scale. You Can't Just Leave it. You've got to Live it. Happiness is a State of mind. Not to Look for it In Others. Your Achievements And Failures Are Known To Shape you and Make you. Bad Things, Depression Can't Be Predicted or even Prevented. The Only thing In your Hands is to Survive it And Live to Tell the Tale. Be An Example To others. So Be A Hero. DON’T LEAVE IT. LIVE IT.
