Given his passion for cinema, and his enthusiasm when assisting in various film shootings, Ashot Hovsepyan took his first steps into the film industry with the support of film director Arman Yeristyan.

Ashot’s directional debut film “The Beard”, also known as “La Barba”, was released in 2009. It participated in a number of festivals, including a screening at the closure of a three day Armenian cultural event in Milan in 2010.

In 2011, under the direction of director Edgar Baghdasaryan, Ashot enrolled in the fictional department at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography (YSITC).

In 2012, La Barba participated in the Pan-Armenian WebApricot festival, and was runner-up in the festival.

In 2013, Ashot, along with his institute collegues and a film crew from Poland, produced a documentary about Yerevan titled “Yerevan from Dawn till Dusk”. The film was produced by the Lodz Film Institute (Poland), as part of the international educational film project “From Dawn till Dusk”. The film was also screened in Yerevan’s premiere theatre Moscow Cinema.

Ashot Hovsepyan graduated from YSITC in 2015 with his dissertation film “Anyone There?”, with renowned musician DerHova. The film has a metaphoric theme of the hardships of life in developing societies where average citizen’s cries are not heard by people in power. “Anyone There?” participated in the 5th WebApricot festival, the 13th annual Golden Apricot Film Festival in Yerevan, as well as the "Anahit" Armenian Film Awards.

Ashot Hovsepyan has taken part in various other projects, including films, commercials and music videos.
