Born in 1971, based in Uppsala, Sweden, Anna-Karin Brus is a multidisciplinary visual artist, musician, and curator whose practice explores the fluid boundaries of reality and perception. Employing collage-based techniques, her work draws inspiration from nature and art history, offering a nuanced commentary on the interplay between the organic and the constructed. With a Master of Science in Biology from Uppsala University, Brus brings a unique scientific perspective to their art. She studied art at Wiks Folkhögskola (1995–1997) and then Gerlesborgsskolan in Stockholm (1997–1999), furthering their exploration of sound and composition at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in 2013 and 2017. Since 2014, Brus has been one of the Artistic Directors of the artist-run space Köttinspektionen, a pivotal venue for experimental art and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her two decades of experience as an art educator at the National Museum of Art in Stockholm (2000–2020) have further enriched her critical engagement with contemporary art discourse. Currently, Brus is actively exploring artificial intelligence as a creative tool, investigating its potential to expand the boundaries of artistic expression and redefine the relationship between human intuition and machine processes.
