King Abalos is an award-winning Filipino filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer celebrated for his provocative psychological thrillers and dramas that explore human consciousness and philosophy. After studying at the Asia Pacific Film Institute, Abalos transitioned from journalism to cinema, earning early critical acclaim with his short film Maria, which won the Bronze Prize at the 26th Filipino Arts & Cinema International Festival (FACINE) in San Francisco. His rising international profile is highlighted by his 2026 breakthrough feature Latina, which secured Best Picture and Best Director nominations at the Veneto International Film Festival in Italy.
His films are rooted in philosophical, scientific, psychological concepts; exploring human tendencies, the construction of time, and the malleable nature of memory and identity.
My cinema is borne of sleepless nights, strange encounters, and Tarkovsky.
