Dr. Sayantan Acharya is an independent filmmaker, photographer and TEDx influencer based in Bangalore. He has been teaching both film making and Physics at Atria university. Acharya started his career as a full-time writer, poet and cover-designer in a Santiniketan-based Bengali literary group " Birutjatio Sahitya Sammilani " and first Bengali audiozine "Ropan". In 2012 he produced and directed his first 30 min long short film "Ramanujer Galpo Noy" along with 30 others fellow students from his university, Visva- Bharati. The positive reception encouraged him to explore the fiction and non-fiction genre even more. As a filmmaker, he has made 10 films (shorts and documentaries) so far. In 2016 he was crowned a co-directorship in Ridley Scott, Anuraag Kashyap and Google India produced the crowd-sourced documentary "India in a day (2016)" and "Life in a Day (2020)". He has also worked as an intern in Bengali movie "Posto" in 2016. He has also made several professional adv. films and story boards for different companies. His documentary "Geography of Drought (2018)" earned recognition worldwide.
Currently he is teaching, exploring, experimenting and making films based on Dogme '95 film movement.
