Somnath Mondal has passed out from Film and Television Institute of India . His debut documentary film "Dukhu Majhi - son of the barren land" (completed on Dec 2021) has been nominated at many national and international festivals including International Documentary and Short Film festival of Kerala (IDSFFK), South Asian Short Film Festival, Image India International Film Festival – Madrid, Spain, Bengal International short film festival, Durgapur International Film Festival, Chennai International documentary & short Film festival etc. This film is still being nominated in many festivals.
This film has won 1st and 2nd Best documentary award in several festivals including CIDSFF, DIFF, BISFF etc.
"Madan Veri - breath of the Ghasis" (Ghasir Banshi) is his 2nd film, completed on February 2023. The screen play of this film has already won the Best Screenplay Award at the Chalachitram National Film Festival-2020.
