This 2-minute experimental video was produced with AI generated characters from the award-winning feature screenplay, “It’s Only Life,” and to date, is the first AI excerpt with genuine connections between AI characters. Every pixel was AI generated.
Scores of detailed, hand-drawn, moment-to-moment storyboards were created by the writer/director (Stephen Meadows) who also performed the voices for the characters. The storyboards dictated the character emotions, reactions, dialogue, looks, wardrobe, camera angles and backgrounds. This clip represents a leap forward in filmmaking, as the goal was to illustrate believable, human interactions from AI characters that has previously not taken place.
AI filmmaking is changing machine. From the age of 5, every person that has seen a gun battle on television knows the bullets aren't real. So why do the characters have to be? Genuine, relatable characters come from the writer. AI presents an exciting new vehicle for independent writer/creators, and should be welcomed by the industry. While AI filmmaking may be controversial, it is the unavoidable.
