Mission
Our mission is to create an inclusive platform for filmmakers, from emerging talents to established professionals, where their artistic vision is celebrated, their voices are heard, and their films are recognized on a global scale. The Calcutta Film Competition aims to promote diversity in cinema, embrace new forms of storytelling, and connect filmmakers from around the world with the rich cultural heritage of Kolkata, one of India's most historic centers of art and cinema.

We envision the Calcutta Film Competition as a prestigious, culturally significant event that nurtures talent and fosters creative exchange. Our goal is to contribute to the evolution of cinema by providing filmmakers with the opportunity to showcase their work, connect with an engaged audience, and find a platform that encourages artistic freedom, experimentation, and impactful storytelling.
We invite submissions in the following categories:
Feature Films
Films with a runtime of over 40 minutes, covering all genres and topics.
Short Films
Films under 40 minutes, embracing diverse genres and narratives.
Documentary Films
Thought-provoking, informative, and inspiring documentaries of any length.
Animation
Creative works in animation, open to all formats including 2D, 3D, stop motion, and more.
Student Films
Celebrating works from student filmmakers, encouraging fresh perspectives and emerging talents.
Experimental Films
Films that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling and explore new cinematic forms.
Music Videos
A category for those pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling through music.
To ensure fairness and inclusivity, we ask all participants to adhere to the following rules and regulations:
Eligibility
Films of any genre, language, or style are welcome.
Submissions are accepted from all over the world.
Films must have been completed within the last two years.
Subtitles are required for all non-English films.
Submission Requirements
Submissions must be made via our designated platform, with all required information provided.
Each submission must include a trailer, poster, and synopsis.
Films previously screened at other festivals can be submitted, as long as they haven’t been distributed commercially.
Film Duration
Feature Films: Minimum 40 minutes.
Short Films: Maximum 40 minutes.
Documentaries: No duration limit.
Music Videos: Maximum 10 minutes.
Student Films: Maximum 20 minutes.
Format
Films must be submitted in HD quality. Accepted formats include MP4 and MOV.
DCP format is required for final screening if selected.
Selection Process
All submissions will go through a fair and transparent judging process by a jury panel consisting of experienced filmmakers, critics, and industry professionals.
Decisions by the jury are final.
Rights & Permissions
The filmmaker must own the rights to the submitted work and have permission for all content, including music and images.
By submitting, you agree to allow the festival to use clips and images from the film for promotional purposes.
Screening & Promotion
Selected films will be screened at various venues across Kolkata.
Filmmakers whose works are chosen will be notified via email.
Official selections will be promoted on our social media platforms and website.
Awards
Awards will be given in each category, including Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.
Additional awards for technical and creative achievement may be introduced at the jury’s discretion.
Entry Fees
Entry fees vary by category and must be submitted with each film.
No refunds will be provided after submission.
Disqualification
Failure to comply with the rules may result in disqualification.
Plagiarized or offensive content will not be tolerated.
