BUFF Film Festival is the most important forum for film for children and youths in the Nordics. During the six days with screenings both day and night about 100 films are presented to the public, many of which might have never been shown outside this festival. The main objectives of this event is to familiarize children with the world of cinema and about the influence of film in society, to help them learn more about other cultures and see things in a broader perspective. Films that that touch, engage and make the viewer ask questions are 100% BUFF.
BUFF is a meeting place for people working with children, young people and film. The festival arranges seminars and discussions for teachers, film-makers and cultural workers aiming to inspire the children and youth film.
Some films are selected for one of our competitions, but most of the films will be screened outside competition. The competitions at BUFF are:
Best film for children / 8 films competing for The City of Malmö’s Children’s Film Award 100.000 SEK.
Best film for young people / 8 films competing for the The Church of Sweden Award 100.000 SEK
Best short film for children and young people (maximum duration 15 minutes) / 8 films competing for the Region Skåne Short Film Award 100.000 SEK
The Young People’s Film Award, organized by the department for Culture for Children and Youth in the City of Malmö: 25.000 SEK

We accept features, documentaries, animations and short films from all over the world.
The main target groups for BUFF are children and young people (age 3-19).
We only accept films with first official screening date after January 1st 2023.
For films in competition we are mainly looking for films that will have the Swedish, European or World Premiere at BUFF.
