Director's Biography
Samar Jain, 28, is a first-year student at Whistling Woods International, Mumbai, pursuing a Master of Arts in Filmmaking. Following his graduation from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, with a Master of Business Administration in Marketing, he worked as a Sales and Marketing Executive at Bytedance India However, his love of writing and storytelling drew him out of the corporate routine, and he quit his lucrative position to become a copywriter at Leo Burnett Mumbai. His credits include scripting multiple films, one of which was directed by Vibhu Puri, and working with high-profile brands like ColorsTV and Bajaj.
Advertising was just a small step towards the world of storytelling. After that, he joined Roy Kapur Films, where he worked as a post assistant on Raja Krishna Menon's feature film "PIPPA," available on Amazon Prime, and received his first feature film credit.
Given such a broad range of experiences, it was time to pursue a formal education in direction. He happened to join Whistling Woods International, where he interviewed back in 2017. He is actively involved in all aspects of filmmaking here at the institute, particularly acting, where he applies his six years of theatre expertise.
Here at Whistling Woods International, his first production, "The Face of India," a short film highlighting the racial discrimination faced by Northeast Indians, has won several awards, including Best PSA at the 14th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2024 and Best Micro Film at the Northeast India International Film Festival, among three other official selections at prestigious film festivals.
Director's Statement
Distance means nothing when hearts are united. This is more than true for Bhoomi and Gagan, who bridge the physical distance between them with a cute little conversation filled with fun and tease over a video call.
Bhoomi rightly says, “Jo faasle hai darmiyaan, hai mann ki dooriyan nahi.”
They are about to get married, but destiny has some other plans. “Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar” is a story about love, romantic as well as love for one’s country, that transcends the boundaries of time and space and becomes eternal. Gagan and Bhoomi, the sky and the land, never truly meet. Does that, however, lessen the horizon's beauty? The film answers this very question.
