Fabio’s Journey is a deliberately restrained, character-driven approach to the gangster genre. Rather than focusing on external violence, I was drawn to the internal conflicts: identity, belonging, and the question of how deeply our past shapes our actions.

The film is set in Germany’s Ruhr region—a place defined by its raw, industrial atmosphere and a distinct emotional weight. This environment reflects Fabio’s inner state: isolated, under pressure, and shaped by structures that are difficult to escape.

My goal was to find an authentic and human perspective on this world, apart from traditional genre clichés. Fabio’s Journey is not a story about power, but about a man trying not to lose himself within it.

Simon Schlömer is an independent filmmaker from Germany, focused on character-driven and atmospheric storytelling. His work explores themes of identity, isolation, and inner conflict, often set against grounded, realistic environments.
