Director's Biography
Joseph Thommana is an emerging filmmaker making his mark in narrative cinema with Mathsyagandhi, his debut short film which he has written and directed, with production by Berly Joseph. This project represents the culmination of his passion for dramatic storytelling and marks his exciting transition into the world of feature filmmaking. Committed to continuous growth, Thommana participated in MACTA's three-day Cinema Camp "Kaazhcha" in Cochin (November 2023) and is enrolled in an upcoming five-day workshop with Sanjay Padiyoor Entertainments Film Academy in Kottayam, Kerala (December 2025), deepening his understanding of the entire filmmaking process. As a storyteller, Joseph has developed a compelling portfolio of theatrical works that include Octopus®, Memories, Oru Swathy Thirunal Kruthi®, Corpus Christi® Mathsyagandhi, and the documentary concept Look at The Difference®.
Thommana's foundation in visual storytelling was built through seven travel documentaries that took him across continents and cultures, including UAE Family Tour, Dubai The Star City, Maldives: A Taste of Paradise, Malaysia: The Treasure of Asia, The Wonders of the World, and The Holy Land. His debut documentary, UAE Family Tour, achieved commercial success through Dubai Duty Free stores, marking an impressive entry into the industry. His ambition expanded with The Wonders of the World, for which he filmed across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Italy, and Egypt, besides incorporating footage from prestigious sources including BBC and Radio & Television Egypt.
The spiritual documentary The Holy Land represents a significant milestone in his career, combining extensive filming across Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine with carefully selected footage from Rai Productions' acclaimed Jesus of Nazareth. The project was honored with an inauguration by the Bishop of Mississauga, Canada, alongside his audio album Kalvariyile Altharayil (At the Altar in Calvary), featuring renowned Malayalam playback singers.
Operating under Rose Movies Productions & Distributions in Dubai (established 2005) and later Rose Productions in Canada (established 2012), Thommana continues to evolve as a filmmaker with an unwavering passion for the cinematic arts and a vision to bring signature stories to the silver screen.
