Director's Biography
Joe is a Dubai-based filmmaker, director, and cinematographer with over 15 years of experience in storytelling across short films, branded content, and documentaries. As co-founder of RSN8, he has built a reputation for crafting visually striking and emotionally resonant films that explore themes of identity, resilience, and transformation.
His short films DETERMiNED and What We Leave Behind both won top honors at the Paramount "We Create Drama" Film Festival, including Best Script, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. Joe’s work blends cinematic precision with raw human emotion, often weaving surreal visuals and layered symbolism into grounded, character-driven narratives.
Director's Statement
Vera was born out of my fascination with the hidden battles we carry inside. I have always been drawn to stories that peel back the layers of identity, faith, and truth. The name “Vera” itself embodies those dual meanings. To me, it represents the tension between what we believe and what is real.
In making this film, I wanted to create more than a story. I wanted to create an experience. The labyrinth of Vera’s mind is a mirror for the labyrinths we all walk through. Each corridor and shadow in the film points to the ways we hide from ourselves, and to the possibility of finally confronting what we fear most.
This project also served as a means of exploring the balance between intimacy and scale. The performances are grounded and human, yet the world of Vera feels larger than life. Every detail of sound, light, and symbol was chosen to immerse the audience in her struggle and transformation.
At its heart, Vera is about choice. The choice to remain trapped by old wounds or to face them and emerge changed. I hope that audiences leave unsettled, but also inspired.
