Biography

Jon-Claire Lee
Producer/Director/Casting Director/Actor

A graduate of New York University (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, and Masters of Fine Arts in Film and TV Directing), Mr. Lee came to Sydney in 1991 and has been a principal acting instructor at Sydney Talent Company. During this time he has taught and coached STC actors who have gone on to work in the industry, including Dieter Brummer, Kate Garven and Beau Brady (Home and Away); Luke Jacobz (Host for The X Factor); Delta Goodrum (Neighbours) and many others.

Also represented by STC, Mr. Lee has featured in international films (Mao’s Last Dancer, Muriel’s Wedding, Nim’s Island, Turning April, 13 Gantry Row, The Exorcist III, Raise the Titanic, etc.); TV dramas (Home and Away, GP, Singapore Sling, Heartbreak High, Joh’s Jury, All Saints, Wildside, Young Lions, Sea Patrol, Mako: Island of Secrets)

In April 2002, he assumed directorship of STC and is devoting his time and energies to the STC talent agency and its school of performing arts. His production company, JCL Productions Pty Ltd, is continuingly putting together, producing and casting new Australian and international film, TV and stage projects.

Mr. Lee has produced and directed two recent feature films: Innocent Killer (2017) and Greed (2019), which have gone on to win many festival awards in Australia, the USA, France and other countries. As a Writer, Mr. Lee is a member of the Australian Writers Guild. His stage play Shattered Jade was selected in 1993 by the Australian National Playwrights’ Centre to open its National Writer’s Week as a staged reading at the Belvoir Street Theatre. In 2001, he directed Shattered Jade, which was selected by the Sydney Carnivale Festival as its main theatrical event to premiere at the Seymour Theatre Centre.

He has also served as Artistic Director for numerous theatrical and festival events in Sydney, including the Festival of Nations (Darling Harbour), the Asian Photographic Exhibition/Competition (Sydney Town Hall), the World’s Best Young Violinist Concert (Sydney Town Hall), and China’s Top Young Musicians Concert (Sydney Opera House).

Some of the awards Mr. Lee has received include the following: the Australian Napoleon Award 1993 for “Arts and Entertainment”; the 1994 Junior Chamber of Commerce International award for being one of the “Ten Most Outstanding Young People (Overseas Chinese Division)” of the Year”; The 1994 Australian Human Rights Songwriting Award for Best Lyrics to the musical piece “Passage,” dedicated to all those “voices” in the world crying out for the human rights that we take so much for granted.
