Busan International AI Short Film Awards & Showcase (BIAFA) is a monthly international online film festival dedicated exclusively to films created using generative AI.

AI is no longer just a tool. It is a new language of cinema. BIAFA focuses on storytelling driven entirely by AI, where creativity and technology come together to create new cinematic possibilities.

BIAFA is based in Busan, South Korea, one of Asia’s leading film cities and the home of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
This festival is an independent project and is not affiliated with BIFF or any other events.

Selected films are presented through a curated monthly online showcase and introduced to international audiences and creative communities.

There are no restrictions on genre or format. All submissions are evaluated based on storytelling, direction, and the effective use of AI technology.

Rules & Terms

1. Overview
Busan International AI Short Film Awards & Showcase is a monthly online international film festival dedicated to films created using generative AI technologies.
The festival aims to highlight the evolution of AI-driven filmmaking and explore new forms of storytelling and expression from creators worldwide.

2. Eligibility
The festival is open to all creators regardless of nationality, age, or experience.
Submissions may be made by individuals or teams.
Entrants must hold full rights to all submitted materials, including AI-generated assets.
Previously awarded or publicly available films are eligible. Premiere status is not required.

3. Submission Requirements
All films must be created using 100% AI-based production methods.

Hybrid works combining live-action footage are not accepted.
The festival accepts works created using any AI tools or platforms.
Films must have a runtime between 5 and 20 minutes.
There are no restrictions on genre or format.
All entries must comply with international copyright and intellectual property laws.
All submissions must be entered into the category:
'AI Short Film (5–20 min)'
The jury may reclassify entries into specific award categories based on evaluation.

4. Submission Format
All submissions must be made via WFCN (World Film Community Network).

Films must be available for secure online screening via WFCN streaming system or Vimeo (password-protected allowed).

Minimum resolution: 1920×1080 (Full HD)
Poster image is required.
English subtitles are mandatory.
Korean subtitles are recommended.
Subtitles must be hardcoded (burned-in).
All metadata (title, credits, synopsis) must be accurate and complete.

DCP is not required (online-only festival).

5. Technical & Quality Standards
Submissions may be rejected if:

Resolution is below Full HD
Audio is unclear or missing
Severe visual artifacts or rendering errors are present

6. Submission Fee
Submission fees follow the official rates listed on WFCN.
All fees are non-refundable.

7. Judging Criteria
Submissions are evaluated based on:

Narrative & Storytelling
Direction & Cinematic Composition
Visual Quality
Sound Design & Music
Innovation in AI Usage

All jury decisions are final.

8. Awards & Selections
Winners are selected across multiple award categories
Some films may receive Honorable Mention
Selected films may be included as Official Selections
Results will be announced via:
WFCN platform
Official festival website and social channels

9. Rights & Usage
Entrants retain full ownership of their work.
However, the festival reserves the right to:

Use trailers, clips, and still images for promotion
Feature selected films in online screenings
By submitting, entrants grant non-exclusive rights for these purposes.

10. Liability
All legal responsibility lies with the entrant.
The festival is not responsible for any legal disputes related to submitted works.

11. Regulations
Rules may be updated when necessary.
All updates will be announced through official channels.

12. Agreement
By submitting via WFCN, entrants agree to all rules stated above.
