Abhilash Chandran

Abhilash Chandran is a multifaceted talent, professionally known for his expertise in education and finance but creatively celebrated for his work in cinema as a writer, actor, and director. His passion for storytelling began early, with active participation in school-level acting, dancing, and singing performances. Among his peers, he was affectionately nicknamed “Jayan” for his striking impersonations of the legendary Malayalam actor.

Abhilash made his directorial debut in 2013 with the short film Kirathan. Since then, he has written and directed a range of thought-provoking short films, including Madiyan, Mrithyunjayam, Passenger, The Mirage, Thiruvonappoovu, and Too Close But Too Far. He also played the lead role in the short film Kintsugi. His work blends creative storytelling with deep social themes, earning him widespread acclaim.

The Mirage received the Award for Outstanding Performance at the Gangtok International Film Festival in 2022. His recent short film Too Close But Too Far has been honored at several prestigious platforms, including the Pulari TV International Film Festival, Global Independent Film Festival of India, Calcutta Film Competition, and the Dubai International Cine Carnival.

His musical short Thiruvonappoovu was awarded “Outstanding Excellence” in Direction at the Religion Faith International Film Festival in the United States and was recognized as Best Music Video at the Bollywood International Film Festival. For his contributions to the medium, Abhilash was also honored with the "Master of Filmmaking" award at the Calcutta Film Competition.

Abhilash Chandran continues to explore the intersection of culture, emotion, and social relevance through cinema, firmly establishing himself as a voice of vision and depth in the independent film circuit.
